Dr Greger has an old video warning vegans to take epa/dha supplement if needed to maybe avoid higher incidence of neurological diseases. Vegans who refuse to take b12 supplement will get neurological diseases and will die.

Modern vegans have been around since the 1950s. B12 pills were invented around the 1950s and the vegan diet seems safe since that time. We already have plenty of time to observe if veganism can cause illnesses such as mental illness. If not ready to go vegan, just try reducing animal products and take b12 supplement. If do not want to take b12 supplement, the best sources of b12 are clam, oyster and mussel.

China has already told its citizens to cut down on animal products by 50% for health and for the environment. WHO says red meat, processed meat and smoked meat causes cancer. Harvard healthy eating plate already says to limit dairy bec dairy is linked to some forms of cancer particularly prostate cancer. The best argument for going vegan is to help delay global warming and to help delay human extinction. Most global warming scientists now recommend going vegan. Just take vitamin b12 supplement if reducing or eliminating animal products. About 15% of global warming is from livestock (mostly cattle). Every day, many people die from antibiotic resistant bacteria. My younger sister died from hospital bacteria in 1992. Livestock factory farms are a source of pandemics and killer bacteria. To be a healthy vegan, it is important to avoid refined substances (oil, sweeteners, juice, refined flour, protein powder, salt) and processed foods and just buy most of your foods from the local farmers markets and the produce section plus cheap staple foods like tubers (potato, sweet potato) and or whole grains.

For the adventist health study 2, the 4 health conscious groups are about the same in terms of longevity : 1. vegans, 2. ovolactovegetarians, 3. eat seafood about 4x a month. 4. eat animal products about 4x a month. The 4 health conscious groups do have better longevity than omnivores who eat animal products more than 4x a month. Vegans should take b12 supplement.

For clues on how to have longevity, can easily look at more recent traditional diets like the 1949 okinawa japan diet. If you want to reach age 100, probably should be on a unrefined plant based diet from birth like those people who live long lives in okinawa japan. In okinawa japan, they ate plenty of pork about monthly during the festivals. All japan cuisine is based on fish flakes to flavor food. Okinawa has a fatty pork miso condiment. Many countries use anchovies to flavor vegetable dishes. For daily animal products, probably better to use them only as condiments and only eat plenty of animal products for monthly parties. The 1949 okinawa diet is a good diet for longevity but it was not perfect since it was a bit low on b12, b2, calcium and zinc. Omnivores can probably get more b12, calcium and zinc from clam, oyster, mussel. If reducing or eliminating animal products, should take b12 supplement.
