lol. welcome to pc gaming. If you have a decent job but adult expenses, do what I do and upgrade ever other generational leap. Using an R9 290, I should be upgrading sometime this fall or winter....hopefully...

still a good card, and the 10 series isn't holding up to all scrutiny so far, so you don't really know if you were missing out yet. i just bought a 980ti i couldn't be happier. always buy the last in a series of cards. not the first. for hardware and driver reasons

R9 290(X) squad! It's depressing to think that my graphics card is the newest component in my PC and it's already outdated and I won't be able to get a new PC cause my big purchase of the year will have to be a laptop.

There's always overclocking! lol
As a 970 owner myself, I'm not too worried about being left in the dust for a while. Most PC gamers buy mid-range cards, and the 970 is in the mid-range area now. Game developers will still be making games that work well on GPUs with similar performance to the 970 for a while. There's no way they'd just ditch the majority of PC gamers because of a few new, expensive, high-end cards. Sure, we may have to turn 1 or 2 video settings down on games that come out in the next few years, but we won't be stuck with low settings for a long time.

Depends on your definition of outdated

980 Ti. I feel you.
If it's any consolation our cards will still be great for a few years at least.

CPU is a AMD Phenom II 1090T, mobo is a Gigabyte Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 and then just some random 8 GB of RAM. Specs aren't the best but I still played Battlefield 4 on mostly ultra settings.

I'm not gonna bother upgrading from my 750ti until i make the switch to 4k (several years)

If you are still gaming at 1080p, theres not much reason to upgrade right now.

Don't worry, I have a gtx 560. It still work fine.

Not really.

Developers always aim for 1080p at High Preset to get 60FPS.

by technicality. Your card is the opposite of outdated because the newer cards are not even really focused on by developers. And that's coming from both actual developers but also from 3rd Party Card Manufacturers.

My GTX770 is still going strong over a year after buying it. I lucked out big time when I bought it as a couple months after they released the 970. Now there is a 1070 I am two generations behind in just over a year of ownership.
